in the news

I am clearly not feeling very creative at the moment. Hopefully it will get better soon. Until then, here are a few things that have caught my eye:

-Smoke-free apartment buildings. I would LOVE to have a smoke free building. I'm certain that once we do move out of this place, it will take awhile before the stench of smoke leaves our stuff.

-Twins! How weird would it be to grow up knowing that there are no twins like you? Though perhaps the first weird thing would be that you were a hermaphrodite...

-Dog food. Not only is it probably a bad idea to eat dog food in the first place...but as it turned out, the dog had a valid reason for not wanting to eat its food. I doubt the dog would have been able to tell that she was "fake eating" as opposed to actually eating the food. Idiot...

On a personal note, I've now done two outdoor runs...they've been tougher than the treadmill runs, but I'm surviving. Hooray! Enjoy your Tuesday...

In case anyone is interested - though the post uses the same language as the article, I believe that the "hermaphrodite" community perfers the term "intersexed".

The "hermaphrodite" communtiy may prefer the term "intersexed" but medically and scientifaclly speaking hermaphrodite is the proper term.

in no way was i meaning to offend the intersexed community, but merely thinking that it would be kind of strange to have the knowledge that medically, you were a hermaphrodite. and perhaps weird and strange aren't the correct terms...maybe more like hard, potentially difficult to deal with...
(how was that? everyone happy with the terminology :)

this reminds me of the conversation i had with my boss yesterday in which i had to explain the difference between "sex" and "gender"....anyway...good morning. maybe i should wake up and stop rambling.

i as about to say maybe you should have a coffee but then realised that you are off the coffee. what about a tea? a nice english breakfast tea might be the jumpstart you need.

just add a W in there where one is missing.

re: dog food - what's worse is that only the wet-food is being recalled (I think). That's way worse than eating the dry stuff. Thankfully, Achilles isn't smart enough to know when we're fake-eating so I've never had to taste it.

There's a difference between sex & gender?

LMAO! What an idiot. There have been times when we want our dog to eat (back when we tried to get her to eat at the same time everyday) and we would PRETEND not ACTUALLY eat it. Good grief.

i have never had a problem getting pets to eat, does 'fake' eating their food really make them eat it?

lu- I tried it with Howard the Wonder Rat once. It was in a moment of desperation as he just wouldn't push that damn lever. Stupid Skinner boxes...

Kris-the simple way to make the gender/sex difference is that sex is what your biology is (XX or XY sex chromosomes) and gender is what you identify yourself as. There are entire books and theories about gender vs sex...so my explanation is of course simplistic.

Simplistic cuts it for me. Thanks for clarifying.

I was thinking as a read that article about the twin who is anatomically male, and wondering if 'he' will ever have gender issues as a result of 'his'intersexed genes. Another question of the learned vs. genetic debate in gender issues.
